The short version
- PvE starting picks: Alliance Gnome; Horde Undead.
- Discipline/Holy: Gnome and Undead are practical starting picks. Shadow: compare each race's priest-only spells and mana needs before locking in.
Alliance: preferred races

Only playable combinations are listed. Where a faction has fewer than three eligible races, there is no artificial top three. Gear, encounter, PvP and beta tuning can change the best pick.
