WoW Forever: the Zephras tallstrider worth checking
A level 8–9 tallstrider has caught hunters’ attention with a listed 1.3-second attack speed and armor reduction. Here is what the Forever beta evidence shows.
The short version
- Look for the level 8–9 Onery Galestrider on Zephras.
- A fast attack speed does not establish the highest DPS.
This bird has something going for it
Look for the level 8–9 Onery Galestrider on Zephras if you want to try this tallstrider: Beastmaster lists a 1.3-second attack interval and Dust Cloud. Vondalv’s report also shows Faster Attack V in the pet spellbook. Check the variant: the level 5–6 Galestrider has a different listing.
Its armor reduction gives physical-damage players a reason to try it. Attack speed alone does not establish it as the best beta pet.
Which bird should you look for?
Beastmaster separates the blue-and-purple level 8–9 Onery Galestrider from the blue-and-white level 5–6 Galestrider, listed at 2 seconds. Both are marked tameable on Zephras. Check the name and variant before replacing your companion.
Level 8–9 describes the creature, not a confirmed minimum hunter level for taming it. Use the linked Beastmaster map as a reference; we have not verified an exact route or access from every capital.
Reading Faster Attack V correctly
The Forever passive tooltip lists 54% increased attack speed. As a calculation, a 2-second base interval divided by 1.54 is approximately 1.30 seconds. That fits the listed interval, without independently proving how every pet parameter is calculated.
Do not apply another 54% increase to the 1.3-second value: there is no evidence here for an additional bonus on top of that interval. More frequent hits do not guarantee the same increase in damage if each hit deals less. Compare damage over an equal duration.
Dust Cloud reduces armor
The rank-one record describes 65 armor reduction for 30 seconds at a cost of 10 Focus. That is 65 armor points, not 65%. The screenshot displays the same amount.
This gives physical-damage groups a reason to investigate it, including melee Survival hunters. Actual value depends on the target’s armor and existing debuffs. The checked sources do not establish stacking with every other armor reduction.
Should you switch pets?
If you can reach Zephras, stable your current companion and try this variant. Compare equal-level pets against the same enemy type, looking at total damage, survival and time spent attacking. Check that its abilities and attack interval remain after taming.
Our take: a worthwhile test, particularly where armor reduction benefits the group. There is not enough evidence to call it the best pet for every spec. These beta findings remain provisional as of 20 September 2026.
