WoW Forever: how to get the Prairie Chicken pet

Before you start

Leave room in your bags for the reward. Blainie shared this Westfall detour on September 22. It awards a companion pet, not a combat pet for hunters to tame.

Follow these steps at Saldean’s Farm

1. 01

   Buy feed from Farmer Saldean

   Open Farmer Saldean’s shop at the farm and buy Special Chicken Feed before approaching a chicken.

2. 02

   Target a chicken and use /chicken

   Select a nearby chicken and repeat /chicken until its name turns green. You can put this single command in a macro and press it manually.

   Accept CLUCK!

   Interact with the friendly chicken and accept its quest. It asks for the special feed you bought from the farmer.

4. 04

   Hand in the feed

   Blainie recommends targeting the chicken, using /cheer and waiting for the turn-in. The quest text also mentions that emote. If the turn-in is already available, complete it.

5. 05

   Loot the egg on the ground

   After completing the quest, find and open the egg beside the chicken. Collect Chicken Egg before leaving the farm.

Use your reward

The Chicken Egg item description says it teaches you to summon this companion. Use the item you collected to obtain your chicken.

Is /cheer required?

A reply to Blainie says /cheer is unnecessary. We include it because both the shared route and the quest text mention it, without treating it as a mandatory extra step when the turn-in already works. The post does not establish a guaranteed number of /chicken attempts.

What about Horde characters?

This route uses Farmer Saldean. Old database comments describe Horde workarounds, but they do not verify those methods in current Forever. Do not plan a cross-continent trip around those comments alone.

Another Westfall detour

Alliance players can also begin the sleeping bag chain here from level 14. That is a separate quest with a much longer journey.
